DIY: Personalize your Furniture

I feel a little bit like a fraud. I've been showing off all my lovely dresses when I've actually moved six times over the last six months and have pretty much looked like this for most of that time:

I also wanted to share a little DIY I did. The apartment that we are in now had two rather ugly chests of drawers in it. I'm a big sucker for personalizing furniture. I've always loved doing it but I think this is my favorite one so far.

So I painted both super light green.

Lined them (actually just mine, my honey thought it would be embarrassing if his friends saw something this girly in his room..) with wrapping paper from IKEA.

My honey loves Monty Python so I thought it would be fun to paint the Ministry of Silly Walks on his drawers. I'm quite happy with the outcome. I'm usually too impatient to draw or paint anything this detailed...
I haven't finished my own chest of drawers yet but I'll keep you posted!

  14. Nothing "fraud" about posting dresses if you wear mostly cutoffs ;) My favorite part about being a style blogger is I can choose which outfits I post, so it looks like I'm infinitely more stylish on a regular basis than what I actually am, haha!

  15. So awesome! i love personalizing my old furniture. Have you ever looked in steampunking/antiquing? I have found some really amazing tutorials for it and have done wonders to old drawers and such.

  25. Oh my gosh, Vanessa!! I love it! I've been thinking a lot about repurposing some of my grandmother's old furniture as I get ready to move. Seems like it would save a lot of $ instead of purchasing all new stuff.

  30. Wow! This is such a good idea! I may have to steal it whenever I have my own place. haha.

    I don't personalize furniture, mostly because I lack any sort of artistic ability, but I do love adding pins to jackets and bags to make them a bit more personal.

  56. I am so so so impressed with how the chest of drawers came out! The white paint and the little people is so classic and cute. Refinishing furniture is one of my favorite things to do. And these is nothing better than jean shorts and a comfy t-shirt! xx
