When I saw Laetitia from Mademoiselle Robot wear Leah Goren's adorable Kitty Cat Tee I went cat crazy! I wanted to press that little "Add to Cart" button so badly but I really don't have 80 Euros to spend on a shirt at the moment. I did however have 8 Euros to spare to buy a simple t-shirt at H&M and 42 Cents to spend on a potato. If you have that kind of money, I say go for it, her design is absolutely charming but if you don't but you have an hour to make one yourself, just follow this simple tutorial!
I chose to do a potato print simply because it's super easy and cheap. The problem is that you can't keep the potato afterwards and use it again on another shirt. Silkscreening would also give you a neater effect. I am not a perfectionist at all and I like "imperfection" so this method suits me perfectly. Plus, this way the shirt is truly unique!
How to do it yourself?
1. Design your own personal cat face (or whatever you'd like to have on your shirt).
2. Cut the potato in half and draw your design onto it with a felt pen.
3. Using a kitchen knife, cut out the design. You can to cut it quite deep.
4. Roll fabric paint on the potato and do a test print.
5. Print on shirt. If you want it neat, you have to press long and even. I like that every print looks different and a bit washed out, so I didn't press it very hard.
6. Let it dry.
7. Iron the shirt front and back.
8. Love!
Have you ever printed a shirt? What methods do you use?
