During my school years I was obsessed with drawing. All my course work was covered with drawings (I'm not sure the teachers enjoyed it as much as I thought they would) and I took every art course at school that I could. But after a foundation year in art and design I pretty much stopped drawing altogether. I was stunned by everyones talent and decided I wasn't good enough to compete and went a different way.
As you may already know, I've recently started working as an illustrator. For me that came out of nowhere since I've rarely picked up a pencil in the last 10 years. But I'm enjoying it and I'm starting to think that it could be a great second career path. It's also not that different from filmmaking. It's visual storytelling using a pencil instead of a camera.
But since I've missed out on 10 years worth of exploring what my style is, I'm doing that now. Figuring out what I personally like to illustrate is not all that easy. At the moment I'm looking at other peoples drawing styles and the images they chose to create and trying to find out what I connect with. These pictures are some of the experiments. I've also started a tumblr where I've started sharing my drawings.
Thanks and have a wonderful week! Vanessa xx
